Eleanor came to me in May 2017, with her goals of weight loss, to improve overall fitness and to become comfortable with running. She had taken part in the Norwich 10k the previous year, but had to walk most of it. Her lack of fitness, being overweight & no regular training program was holding her back. Eleanor's self esteem and confidence was low and I knew that I needed to help her to believe in herself. Eleanor said to me that her vision was about a complete lifestyle change for the long term and she understood that if this was going to work properly that she needed help and guidance to keep her on the right track and give her encouragement. We decided to set a running goal of beating last years Norwich 10k running time (see below), which Eleanor absolutely thrashed by 15 minutes, with just 3 months of training. Eleanor trained with me once a week, and in her own time, in between our sessions. I set her a strength, running and circuit training program, which I've continuously updated as Eleanor has progressed and got fitter and stronger.
It is now June 2019, and Eleanor has been training with me for just over 2 years! When I see these photo's all I can say is Wow! I am so proud of you Eleanor for all your hard work, dedication and determination to succeed and to never give up! Eleanor has lost 2 stone in weight. She can run and run fast! She practices 30 minute runs each week and speed work too! She is so much stronger, practicing a weekly strength training program, lifting weights that she never thought possible. However, I think the most amazing thing about Eleanor's journey is the change and development in her self esteem and confidence. Eleanor now believes in herself and what she can do. She knows that whatever she sets her mind to, she can achieve! You are a Super Star Eleanor! I can't wait to see where the next 2 years takes you!
Left Eleanor 2016 and Right Eleanor 2017
Eleanor began training with me on the 6th May 2017 this year. Her goal was to take part in the Norwich 10k on Sunday 6th August, and to beat her Norwich 10k time last year of 1 hour 39 minutes.
With a great plan in place and Eleanor’s dedication I knew this would be achievable! Last year Eleanor walked most of the Norwich 10k but this year was going to be different!
We built up Eleanor’s training over 3 months to the point that she was able to run perform a '1 minute walk 1 minute run' for the whole 10k! 3 weeks before the race day we set out onto Marriott’s Way in Norwich and put Eleanor's training into practice and she succeeded in knocking 10 minutes off last years time.
Over the remaining 3 weeks, we built up Eleanor’s walking and running speed and the success of this was about to make a massive positive impact on Eleanor’s race performance.
When it came to the Norwich 10k race day, Eleanor was ready! And she succeeded way beyond expectations with an amazing time of 1 hour and 24 minutes, that's 15 minutes faster than last year!
What an incredible achievement!
Eleanor now plans to take part next year in Norwich's Race for Life 5k, as well as the Norwich 10k.
Lorraine started training with me in February 2017.
Over the past 6 months Lorraine has learnt several different Strong Woman lifts, especially the Deadlift. With weekly coaching and learning the correct technique of Deadlifting Lorraine has gone from a starting weight of 30kg to 66kg! These are some of the exercises that Lorraine has learnt and her Personal Bests so far:
Deadlift – 66kg Farmers Walk – 32.5 each han Sled Drag with Harness – 90kg Sled Push & Pull – 60kg Sled Pull with Rope – 100kg Over Head Barbell Press – 18kg Sandbag 38.5kg Carry for 30 metres Lorraine is getting stronger and stronger every week with all her lifts! Her progress and achievements to date are brilliant!
Lorraine’s Testimonial ‘What strong woman training means to me:
I find that the strong woman training complements my ‘at home’ training of HIITS and lighter weights really well, making me more able to sustain harder workouts and perform better i.e. full press ups rather than 3 quarter ones. The strength training really suits me and my body.
The strong woman work is generally full body, more functional moves which test not only strength, stamina but also coordination and ability to follow basic instructions at times! I love the way that I can feel my body getting stronger week by week and feel more stable and confident. It’s fun and works the body to its max, burning calories and boosting the metabolism for continued fat burn afterwards too.
As a woman it is so important to have that strength training to help the bone density and future proof our body. I find training with Lisa so interesting as we look at what works for me and why, sometimes changing how we do things but never giving up.
In 2009, I had a double hip replacement at the age of 35 (I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since a baby). Although I have been a gym bunny since my late 20’s, it still took a little while to regain strength and be able to train safely again afterwards. Although cautious in our approach, this has not prevented me doing Strong Woman training, in fact the training is helping to keep my hips in place and protect them. By working on the muscles surrounding joints, it is possible to develop strength and fitness beyond expectations of my Doctors. If anyone is concerned about whether they can train due to pre-existing conditions I would always advocate speaking with their GP first but also to listen to their own body.
It’s amazing what we can achieve with the right care and guidance!’
